About

Fermanagh is the westernmost of the six counties that form Northern Ireland, and the most western part of the inhabited United Kingdom. It is a truly beautiful county Fermanagh is often referred to as Ireland's Lake District, together with neighbouring County Cavan.

In Northern Ireland the county borders County Tyrone to the north-east, and in the Irish Republic the county borders County Monagahan to the south-east, Cavan and Leitrim to the south-west and County Donegal to the north-west.

Fermanagh is the only county of Northern Ireland that does not border Lough Neagh. It doesn’t need to. It has many beautiful lakes, the main ones being Lough Erne Upper and Lough Erne Lower, the latter which connects to the Shannon River. Agriculture and tourism are two of the most important industries in Fermanagh. The main types of farming in the area are beef, dairy, sheep, pigs and some poultry. Most of the agricultural land is used as grassland for grazing and silage or hay rather than for other crops.

The waterways are extensively used by cabin cruisers, other small pleasure craft and anglers. The main town of Fermanagh is Enniskillen. The island town hosts a range of attractions including the Castle Coole Estate and Enniskillen Castle and museum.

Other wonderful attractions include the renowned Beleek Pottery at the border with Blacklion in Cavan, The fantastic Marble Arch Caves and Devenish Island is not to be missed by any visitor.

Florence Court is a large 18th century house and estate located 8 miles south-west of Enniskillen. It is set in the foothills of Cuilcagh Mountain. The nearby village is distinguished by the one-word name Florencecourt. It is owned and managed by the National Trust and is the sister property of nearby Castle Coole. The other National Trust property in County Fermanagh is the Crom Estate.

ermanagh thrives today as the leading inland tourism county in Northern Ireland. It is the least populated county in Ulster, but makes up for it by the huge presence of natural beauty that allows the tourist indulge in so many leisure activities. Modern hotels and castle accommodation provide discreet luxury and humble B&B’s bestow a warm welcome to the tourist.
