About On a former island in the middle of Monaincha Bog, there stands a High Cross and the ruin of a small church.

The monastery experiences a revival in the 12th century when it became Augustinian.

The nave-and-chancel church has a richly decorated Romanesque west doorway and chancel arch.

Fragments of a 12th century High Cross have been re-erected outside the church.

Decoration includes horsemen and a Crucifixion.

Giraldus Cambrensis, the historian of the Norman invasion, describes the place as an island where no woman or animal of the female sex could enter without dying immediately.

In 1568 it was granted to Sir William Carroll and in 1586 passed to Sir Lucas Dillon.
