Hill of Slane - County Meath
It is said that Saint Patrick came to the Hill of Slane early in his attempt to convert pagan Ireland to the light of Christianity. On the eve of the Christian feast of Easter, 433 A.D. St. Patrick lit a bonfire upon the Hill of Slane. No one was supposed to light a fire until the Druids had lit theirs. St Patrick was captured on the Hill of Slane and taken to the pagan King Laoghaire. During the journey Saint Patrick and his followers recited a prayer. Saint Patrick managed to talk his way out of the crime and was granted permission by the King to preach Christianity.
The remains of a monastery are all that remains on the Hilloff Slane. A statue of Saint Patrick is there looking over the Boyne Valley.
