St Columba's Church - Kells - County Meath

Cross at Kells Heritage Centre

In 6 AD the then High King of Ireland granted St Columkille permission to build a monastery on the now site of St Columbas Church. Four of the high crosses of Kells are located in the grounds of St Columba's Church. Also at the visitor centre in Kells you may see a better example of a High Cross. This cross once sat in the centre of the town but for safety reasons has been moved to the visitor centre.
