Drogheda was founded by Hugh De Lacey during Norman times. It sits at the mouth of the River Boyne in Co. Louth and is not far from the scene of the famous Battle of the Boyne. Drogheda is known as the gateway to the boyne valley and makes an ideal base from which to explore this historic and scenic area. Click here for an online Google Map of Drogheda.

It is a busy port town and with it's close proximity to Dublin has grown into a large commuting town with many shopping facilities, restaurants and pubs. This large growth has seen a number of new shopping centres arriving in Drogheda ie Drogheda Town Shopping Centre , The Haymarket Newgrange Business Park , SHE - Scotch Hall Experience which is a new 25k square meter shopping centre on the banks of the boyne, M1 retail park housing Woodies and Smyths Toys. A new pedestrian bridge has been recently opened called DeLacey Bridge

Many of the old town features still stand such as St Laurences Gate, Magdalenes tower, The Viaduct across the river dating from 1850, St Peters Church which houses the head of St Oliver Plunkett , Martello Tower - Millmount , plus lots more to see.

Many old buildings have been refurbished such as The Tholsel, The Old Grammar School and a beautiful row of Stone houses opposite the bus station
