The river is part of what are known as the Three Sisters the Suir, Nore and Barrow Rivers that all converge at Waterford City and then onwards to the Celtic Sea.

The river Suir flows through the centre of County Tipperary winding its way from Borrisnoe mountain, north of Templemore, passing close to Templemore,through Loughmore and Thurles and on through Holycross, famous for its Abbey and Ardmayle.

It passes close to Cashel at Camas, through Golden, passing beside Athassel Abbey, and on through Knockgraffon and Cahir.

The Suir proceeds on through Ardfinnan, Newcastle, Knocklofty and Clonmel, and on through Kilsheelan and Carrick on Suir, through Fiddown to Waterford to meet the rivers Nore and Barrow, then to sea through the Waterford Estuary ending their journey at Duncannon.
