The lake is close to the town of Manorhamilton and straddles the two counties with the majority of it being in County Leitrim.
On the north of Glencar Lake is Glencar Waterfall and it was here that the setting and charm inspired W.B. Yeats to write The Stolen Child.
One can see why the setting provided inspiration.
Glencar Lake is a good fishing lake with perch and bream being the most common catch along with smaller fish.
The woodlands around it have fantastic walking trails with wonderful plant and animal wildlife in abundance.
