Lloyds Tower is situated in what is called the Peoples Park 3km outside Kells in County Meath.It is in the shape of a lighthouse and stands about 100 feet tall. It makes an impressive landmark and various theories exist on why the tower was built. One theory is that it was built by the Earl of Bective's son in memory of his father in 1791. Another theory is that it was built to provide employment to the local workforce during hard times. Another theory was that it was built by the Headfort family to view the surroundng countryside especially for the horseracing.
