Flagstaff is a small townland overlooking Carlingford Bay, located in the Northern Ireland county of County Down. The area is just south of Newry City, the capital town of County Down. It is to the east of the Mi as you approach Newry from the south. The area straddles the border with County Louth and is on the northern slopes of the Cooley Mountains, the range of mountains that are the dominant feature of the Cooley Peninsula in County Louth.
From here there are magnificent views of Warrenpoint, Newry and the beautiful Mourne Mountains. It is a popular area for one-off building of grand residences that benefit from the stunning views. However, Newry and Mourne District Council take a dim view of excess ribbon development in the area because of its rural aspect.
However it is worth a visit and is a fantastic drive or a base to walk the Cooley Mountains from the north side.
