One of the most scenic and quaintly beautiful towns in all of County Down is Ardglass which has a magnificent and pretty harbour and is one of the three major fishing ports in Northern Ireland. Water based sports and sea angling are popular activities with festivals and regattas regularly held.
The former Ardglass Castle is now home to Ardglass Golf Club, which plays host to the annual Heart of Down Golf Tournament, organised by Down District Council. It a stunningly beautiful golf course with views out to Isle of Man in the Irish Sea on a clear day. Jordans Castle an imposing ruined 15th century tower house is open to visitors during the summer season.
Ardglass has benefited from the new Ardglass Marina Complex opened in 1996, with berthing facilities for 83 vessels, perfect for exploring the South Down coast and on the rushing waters of Strangford Lough. Many affluent Belfast based business people have vessels berthed here and the town in the summer weekends is thronged with visitors.
Ardtole Church a ruined late medieval church is situated on hilltop overlooking the sea and the Isle of Man.
There are many excellent restaurants with fish being the speciality, naturally. All types of accommodation are available and small character pubs abound in the town.
