About It is not often you see the same stretch of beach linking towns that are in two different counties but such is the case with the twin resort towns of Portrush and Portstewart on the North West coast of adjoining counties Antrim and Derry are a wonderful attraction during the summer months with fabulous beaches that span the distance between each town.
Portrush is the larger of the two towns offering more in accommodation, restaurants and amusement activities. In addition, the Royal Portrush Golf Club overlooking the sea is one of the best links courses in the British Isles and is up there with the best in the world. Portstewart is also a lovely links course which makes the two towns a joy for visiting golfers. (See our Golf Ireland Section)
Portstewart is a smaller town than its neighbour, but very quaint and beautiful for that. It is more of a residential town than a seaside resort and eschews the somewhat tacky image of Portrush which is unashamedly a seaside holiday resort.
Portstewart is not to be outdone on the golfing front however. Portstewart Golf Club is a magnificent links course that often gets overlooked by the more famous Portrush Golf Club beside it. Portstewart is a truly a great test of golf and compares favourably with any of the best links courses in Ireland.
There is less accommodation choice in Portstewart than Portrush but some very fine restaurants and pubs.
