Kinsale is a beautiful village located at mouth of the Bandon River, 15 kilometres south of Cork City on the R600 Cork City-Kinsale Road. It is famous for its fine cuisine with a dazzling selection of restaurants. It is home to the annual Kinsale Gourmet Festival, which is an event worth including on any itinerary of Cork and the South West. The village is very picturesque with narrow streets and colourful buildings, together with a beautiful marina and chic shopping. Leisure activities abound, with sailing, golf and fishing predominant.
Kinsale is famous for so many things, but the Battle of Kinsale, in 1601, can truly be said to the most important event associated with the town because of the tumultuous effect it had on Irish history that ripple through the centuries right up to the present day.
