Monasterboice High Cross , County Louth
The cross at Monasterboice in County Louth is the finest High cross in Ireland. It is inscribed with scenes from the Bible and is a must for all visitors to ireland. The first image inscribed on the east face is Adam receiving an apple from Eve. This is the first image to be lit as the sun rises. It is named after an abbot, Muiredach mac Domhnaill, who died in 923 and is known as Muiredach's Cross.The cross stands in a small graveyerd which is the remains of Monasterboice Abbey founded by St Buithe. There are other fine examples of High Crosses in the graveyard as well as a tower.
