CELTIC IRELAND CD ROM

CELTIC IRELAND
Celtic cd romFrom their arrival in Ireland around 350 B.C to today the Celtic tribes are the underlying foundation of the Irish Nation. Large royal sites such as Tara in County Meath and Cruachain in County Roscommon, seemed to have a practical defensive purpose. Many of these can thankfully be seen throughout Ireland today. In this unique production we have brought them together through the use of clear 360° x 360° interactive imagery, together with narration, text, and original song and music, complete with slideshows and screensavers. The viewer gains an insight into the past which will provide many hours of viewing that embellish an existing sense of identity. With spectacular imagery and useful historical information this is a truly educational and evocative experience which will remain embedded in your memory.

Durrow High Cross , Co. Offaly
St Colmcille founded Durrow in the 6th century. Despite numerous raids and famines, Durrow retained many important historic relics. Durrow itself features a marvellous High Cross with panels showing figures from the Book of Genesis.

Monasterboice High Cross , Co. Louth
Monasterboice is known for its remains of the monastic settlement founded by Saint Buite in the fifth century and is one of the best examples of high crosses in Ireland.

Kells High Cross , Co. Meath
St Columba's church stands on the site of the original monastery. The church houses a facsimile of the Book of Kells and an exhibition on the history of the site.

Lough Derrevaragh , Co. Westmeath
Another beautiful yet sad story is the story of Lir and his children who became swans. Lir's wife, Eva, had given him four beautiful children and died during childbirth. Aoife scowled at them again and told them that they were to spend nine hundred years as swans, three hundred on Lough Derravaragh, three hundred on the Straits of Moyle and three hundred on the Isle of Inish Glora. To end the spell they would have to hear the bell of the new God.

River Boyne , Co. Meath
The stories of the Gods and heroes in Irish Mythology are fantastical. The most famous one of all is that of Fionn Mac Cumhaill who gained his wisdom from tasting "The Salmon of Knowledge" that lived in the River Boyne.

Rathcroghan , Co. Roscommon
Rathcroghan mound is a wide circular drum shaped mound about 10 ft high with a small ringbarrow just visible on the top. Rathcroghan is also made famous in the epic tale of the Tain Bo Cuilagne.

Turoe Stone , Co. Galway
The Turoe Stone, located in County Galway in the west of Ireland, is one of the most instantly recognisable examples of ancient art in Ireland. It is the best example, from a select few surviving examples, of a Celtic art style called La Tene.

Doon Castle , Co. Offaly
Six miles north of Ferbane are the remains of Doon Castle, with a carved figure called a "Sheela-na-Gig. This is a well preserved Sheela-na-gig left of the doorway on the south east corner of the building. The figure appears to have been carved standing though built into the castle on her site.

Trinity College , Co. Dublin
The Irish seemed unlikely saviours of academic knowledge, living as they did in their rural environments, however, scholarship could flourish in Ireland because there existed a learned class of poets, druids and lawyers, who were effectively thought of as being intellectuals. The Book of Kells and The Book of Durrow magnificent books are on display in glass cases in the Long Room of the Library at Trinity College. A page is turned in each book each day.

Clonmacnoise , Co. Offaly
Clonmacnoise was founded by St Ciaran in about 545 AD. He is reputed to have come down the Shannon from his hermit's cell on Hare Island to establish this monastic settlement where the east- west route, the Eiscir Riada, along the esker ridges of central Ireland, met the north south route of the Shannon.

Cooley , Co. Louth
One of the most scenic sites in County Louth is the Cooley Peninsula with its wild boggy, mountainous and forested countryside, which was the setting for the Celtic legend The Cattle Raid of Cooley.

Hill of Slane , Co. Meath
It is said that Saint Patrick came to the Hill of Slane early in his attempt to convert pagan Ireland to the light of Christianity. On the eve of the Christian feast of Easter, 433 A.D. St. Patrick lit a bonfire upon the Hill of Slane.

Hill of Tara , Co. Meath
One of the most famous Royal Site is located at Tara, Co. Meath. The Hill of Tara has been home to druids, warriors and was the seat of the High Kings of Ireland. The Hill of Tara today has the ruins of the royal enclosures, and circular mound formations.

Hill of Uisneach , Co. Westmeath
The Hill of Uisneach was the ancient seat of the Kings of Meath. Uisneach has also been famous as a meeting place in pre-history, as a place of cattle rituals and other 'May Day' assemblies.

Knocknarea Hill , Co. Sligo
Knocknarea is visible for miles in any direction five different counties can seen from its summit. On the top of the hill is Queen Maebh's Cairn. It is roughly 35 feet high and holds 40,000 tons of loose stones. Queen Maebh is best known for her part in Ireland's most famous saga, The Cattle Raid of Cooley.

Glendalough , Co. Wicklow
Glendalough is a beautiful place; it is a place of ancient monastic settlement and two clear water lakes beneath sheer cliffs of a deep valley. It was here that St. Kevin founded a monastery in the sixth century.

Hill of Allen , Co. Kildare
About 3 miles north of Milltown you will find the Hill of Allen. There is a path up the hill through the forest to a 19th century tower on top. Only half of this historic hill is left. Sir Gerald George Alymer Baronet built the folly tower in 1880 in thankful remembrance of God's mercies, many and great. A rusty door leads to a spiral staircase, which gives access to the open top of the tower. The views are stunning from here.

Grianan of Aileach , Co. Donegal
On the top of the Grianan mountain, not far from the border of Northern Ireland, lies Grianan of Aileach, one of the finest stone forts in Ireland. The massive stonewall is 13ft thick and encloses an area 77ft in diameter.
